PPL Costs and Rates

This page shows the current Aeroclub Maritime rates as of 1 April 2026. The structure is intentionally simple: first membership, then training aircraft rental and finally the instruction rate.

The total cost of flight training depends on the licence you choose, the number of flight hours you need and your own preparation. LAPL has a lower minimum number of hours than PPL. The amounts below therefore mainly show the fixed building blocks of your training.

PPL costs: how the training is built up

The costs of PPL training consist of several parts: membership, aircraft rental, instruction, theory, exams and the medical certificate. The rates below show the main club costs that make up your flight training. Because every student learns at a different pace, the final total differs per person.

How to calculate PPL costs

PPL training has a legal minimum of 45 flight hours. Your final cost depends on the aircraft’s billed block hours, the number of instruction hours, the split between instructed and solo flights and the time required to reach examination standard.

Using the published rates, you can estimate the club portion as follows:

• Aircraft rental: € 185 per block hour. A block hour is pure flight time plus 10 minutes.
• Instruction: € 55 per instruction hour. One flying-lesson session is charged as two instruction hours: € 110 per lesson. This covers the pre-flight briefing and ground instruction, support around the flight and the post-flight debrief.
• Solo flight: no instruction rate applies; aircraft rental remains € 185 per block hour.
• First-year membership: € 260 + € 50 registration = € 310.
• Participant rate: € 110 per block hour for members participating in an aircraft; participation has separate conditions and costs.

During the debrief, you discuss what went well and which areas need more attention during the next lesson. Each lesson therefore includes more than the time spent in the aircraft.

This is a calculation model, not an all-in quotation. Do not simply add aircraft rental and instruction as matching hourly units: aircraft use is charged per block hour and instruction per flying-lesson session of two instruction hours.

Which costs are additional?

The following items vary by student or are charged by external parties, so they are not included in one fixed total:

• PPL theory training and study materials
• Theory examinations and practical skills test
• EASA Class 2 medical examination
• Any landing and airport charges outside the published aircraft rental
• Headset, charts and other personal materials
• Additional flying hours above the legal minimum of 45 hours
